Percent Change

Sand:
Trial 1: (230 - 100)/100 = 1.3 * 100 = 130% increase
Trial 2: (185 - 100)/100 = .85 * 100 = 85% increase

Soil:
Trial 5: (375 - 100)/100 = 2.75 * 100 = 275% increase
Trial 6: (350 - 100)/100 = 2.5 * 100 = 250% increase

The sand is more prone to sliding because it had a lower amount of water increase needed to slide.

Internet Investigations

  1. Water, soil and steep cliffsides.
  2. Mudslides have to be at a certain angle to happen.
  3. Push it by hand or pour water on it.
  4. Rocks would be equivelent to my hand and the water would be water.
  5. Sudden release of water picking up large quantities of ash and loose debris.
  6. There are no more trees letting the mudflow accelerate faster.
  7. Instead of it being all burned and ugly and it will get covered with mud and soil.
  8. Clear cutting and taking out plants and trees.
  9. Conditions for dangerous mudflows are slope, soil condition, and how much water. The location for mudflows are places where there are steep slopes and very little vegetation.
